Sarasota - Bradenton -- Florida's Cultural Coast -- has plenty more than cultural allure in shopping. Yes, there are art galleries galore, including some where artists-in-residence are working on more pieces. And at downtown Sarasota's Towles Court, every third Friday of the month brings "Art by the Light of the Moon," for strolling past exhibits on the square. Yet diversity reigns. For antiques, downtown Sarasota's Herald Square, south of Main Street, is a trove of one-of-a-kinds. Further south in Sarasota County, Venice MainStreet awaits with boutique-style shops, outdoor cafes and specialty stores in attractive Italian Renaissance architecture. Artisan's World Marketplace stocks assorted works from artists in developing countries worldwide, paying fair market value for their wares and provides funding for projects back home that create jobs or provide job training.

On Lido Key across Sarasota Bay, St. Armands Circle is filled with style for discerning tastes at havens including The White House / Black Market, Oh My Gauze!, Jamaican Me Crazy, Alexander Fine Jewelry and Armel Jewelers, along with The Mole Hole, Ted E. Bear Shoppe, The Alphabet Shop and Wet Noses, for pets and their friends. Nearby dining includes Columbia Restaurant, Crab and Fin, and Hemingway's, with homemade ice cream at Kilwin's. Westfield Shoppingtown Southgate, anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard's and Macy's, is a traditional-style mall with retailers such as Ann Taylor, Talbots, Express, Express Men, Pottery Barn and Banana Republic. At Westfield Shoppingtown Sarasota, retailers include American Eagle, Gap, Pacific Sunwear, Limited Too, The Disney Store, and Things Remembered. Outlet shopping at Prime Outlets in Ellenton is north on I-75 with more than 100 stores from Ralph Lauren, Geoffrey Bean and Tommy Hilfiger to Banana Republic. Bargain hunters head to Bradenton's Red Barn Flea Market Plaza boasting more than 400 inside booths and 200 outside stalls, with free parking and admission, plus courtesy carts for transport from the lot.
